What is Reiki?

Reiki, very simply, is a system of relaxation and stress reduction. It helps to allow the energy within the body to move freely so it can function at its best. When someone asks me what it is, I like to add in layman’s terms to think of acupuncture without the needles.

Everybody has something that’s known as the aura, or the energy body. Within this body there are a series of energy centers, or chakras, that run up and down the center of your body. Your energy centers collect information as you move through life, and this information is stored in different parts of the body based on its frequency. Sometimes this information is light and positive. Sometimes it can come from trauma, stress, or a harsh circumstance. When this happens, an energy center can be made to shut down, and store information that needs to be released before it can function properly and allow itself to heal. Reiki energy is capable of clearing such energy blockages and move them through the body so they can be properly released, allowing the body to return to normal functionality and heal. But Reiki is only one part of the equation. The rest lies on you to maintain it.

My Reiki Journey

In late Summer of 2019, my good friend and mentor Danielle Meill asked for my help in putting together a series of Reiki manuals so she could begin teaching others about this practice. We set a deadline to have the maunals printed for the week before her first session, which she offered a space for me to learn. I accepted immediately, The morning of the class, I was working, and had a freak equipment accident happen that nearly broke my left ankle, but thankfully I was not seriously injured. I did wind up with a wicked bruise on my foot however (pictures to follow) but I still made it to the Level 1 class.

The next evening I had attended a concert with Danielle and some friends, and before leaving for the show I decided to conduct a self care Reiki session. I focused my intention towards healing the damage in my ankle so I could recover more quickly. Imagine my surprise the next morning when I checked out my ankle and my bruise had almost COMPLETELY healed! At that point, any skepticism I had about how Reiki energy worked was completely thrown out the window.
But don’t take it from me, take it from the photos of my ankle!
